The Department of Psychiatry at Government Thiruvarur Medical College was established in 2010. Since then, it has been providing psychiatric services to patients from different parts of Thiruvarur and the neighbouring districts, and is dedicated to providing comprehensive mental healthcare and medical education.
Facilitated by a faculty of qualified specialists, the department manages a high volume of outpatients and inpatients, ensuring that students receive essential hands-on experience in diagnosing and treating diverse psychiatric conditions.
A key pillar of the department's service is the Comprehensive De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre (CDRC), which provides specialised, integrated care and recovery support for individuals battling substance use disorders.
