Established in 2016 as a dedicated outpatient service with solitary faculty, the Department of Cardiology had stood the test of time and has flourished through a decade of unwavering commitment to cardiac health. Today, the department has evolved into a fully equipped diagnostic and interventional hub serving the spokes of ancillary government hospitals of Tiruvarur, Nagappattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts.

Our facility boasts state-of-the-art technology including high-precision Echocardiogram systems, advanced Treadmill Testing (TMT), and 24-hour Holter monitoring. In 2024, the department reached a historic milestone with the commissioning of the Philips Azurion Cath Lab — the first of its kind in the East Tanjore region. This cutting-edge facility provides rapid, life-saving intervention for emergency cardiac ailments.

With over 1,100 coronary angiograms and 200 angioplasties performed to date on par excellence with the other colleges.

Academic Prowess

Beyond clinical care, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of cardiac experts. The Department teaches Eight MD Postgraduate students annually with the available faculty and equipments.

The department maintains an annual intake of 20 B.Sc. Cardiac Technology students, with our inaugural batch already graduating with flying colors.

Looking forward to the future, we are currently in the nascent stages of initiating DM Cardiology superspeciality program. The department aims to advance with structural heart disease intervention thereby cutting down the referrals elsewhere.
