Paediatrics

Department of Pediatrics, Government Thiruvarur Medical College caters a great chunk of the needy sick children of Delta districts of Tamilnadu and also the border zone from karaikal. The department consists of Pediatric intensive care unit, Pediatric Resuscitation and Emergency Management unit, General Paediatric wards, a well equipped Neonatology unit and DEIC (DISTRICT EARLY INTERVENTION CENTRE) unit.

The 12 bedded Pediatric intensive care unit is modernized and has got advanced equipments with centralized monitoring system and telemedicine connectivity to state HHDU unit including ventilators and HFNC.also provison for peritoneal dialysis

General Paediatric wards consist of 2 units and have a capacity of 40 beds each with facility for isolation wards and Outbreak wards. PREM -pediatric Resuscitation and emergency management unit, which is one the pillar of TAEI, takes care of the critically ill child refered to our institution.

Neonatology Unit is now spacious and expanded in a big way and functioning in the CEMONC building with 14 ICU beds and 16 Level2 beds and 10 level 1 beds and takes care of the referrals as well.

The academic activities of our department have reached the next level milestone in having got 3 MD postgraduates per year in addition to undergraduates. Also the department is conducting gold medal exam for UG MBBS students from 2024 onwards.

The Department also conducted a CME on PEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY by an eminent National Speaker Dr.Hemchand K Prasad on 16 june 2023 made it a grand success with highly informative academic feast for varied audiences including UG,PG and Practioners. Another CME was also conducted along with IAP on DIAGNOSTIC STEWARDSHIP on 8 May 2024 and it was honoured by a big crowd of more than 100 registrations.

The department also celebrates important national days like World Breastfeeding week celebrations, World child Health day, World hemophilia day, National Nutrition week, National newborn week, World Down syndrome day.
