The General Surgery Department at Government Thiruvarur Medical College is a well-established and dynamic unit committed to providing comprehensive surgical care, advanced training, and high-quality academic programs. With a dedicated team of faculty and state-of-the-art facilities, the department plays a pivotal role in patient care, medical education, and research.

Faculty & Training Programs
• Faculty Strength: 18 experienced and skilled faculty members.
• Postgraduate Training: 10 postgraduates admitted annually.
• Internship Program: MBBS interns are posted in rotation for six weeks, gaining hands-on experience in both elective and emergency surgeries.
• Undergraduate & Postgraduate Classes: Regular academic sessions, including case presentations, journal clubs (weekly), and tumor board discussions (weekly).
• Nursing & Paramedical Training: B.Sc. Nursing students receive practical training under expert supervision.

• Two Emergency Theatres for round-the-clock trauma and urgent surgical procedures.
• Three Elective Theatres, performing planned surgeries daily.
